When you are selling your home, chances are you spend a whole lot of time getting the interior of the property into good shape by giving it a fresh lick of paint and moving out some of the less desirable clutter, for example. What about the garden? Yes, you might mow the lawn and trim back and big shrubs, but is that enough to make the garden sale-ready?
The garden is just as big a selling point as the rest of the space, so you need to get it ready.
Here are a few things that will help you to do just that:
Make pool maintenance a priority
If you have a pool in the yard, then you want to ensure that it looks amazing. Having a pool is obviously a major selling point, but if yours has seen better days or looks like it might be too much work to get it back to life again, then many buyers simply won’t bother. If you need to invest in a professional cleaning or even concrete pool resurfacing, do it before you put your place on the market. You will not regret doing so.
Tame those wild weeds
Weeds are the bane of every gardener’s existence. Although this might not be something you look forward to, before you put your home up for sale, you are going to want to tame those weeds. After all, you wouldn’t put your home up for sale with rubbish all over the kitchen counters or clothing all over the floors. Why would you let buyers come and look around a garden that’s overgrown with ugly weeds?
Bring on the blooms
Nothing says “welcome home” like a garden bursting with blooms. Grab your gardening gloves and get ready to plant some floral stunners that will have potential buyers stopping in their tracks. Think vibrant native flowers, lush greenery, and maybe even a few fragrant herbs thrown in for good measure. Bonus points if you arrange them in eye-catching pots or hanging baskets to add some extra pizzazz.
Fix the fences
If you have fences or walls around your yard, you are going to want to ensure that they are in the best possible condition because no one wants to buy a house only to have to repair the borders right away because their dog, or kid can get out onto the street. Walk the perimeter and check for any large gaps, rotting fence boards or crumbling walls and do your best to repair them so that the garden is as secure as can be.
Show some lawn love
Last of all, you are going to want to dedicate some time to ensuring your lawn is as lush and manicured as possible. If overgrown, it could make the property seem scruffy. If brown and dry, it will be unappealing. Feed and mow it, or consider digging it up to replace it with new turf. A nice lawn really does make such a difference to the look and feel of your house.

Getting your garden ready for sale might feel like a big job. Work out how much time you have and work backwards with what you need to fit in. Schedule the jobs you need to do. Ask friends or family if they can help. Hire an expert to do what you can’t yourselves.
Having a tidy garden will improve the overall look of your house and will help you get the highest price you can for your property. It will be worth the effort.
