Wanting to enter competitions but don’t know where to find them? It’s a common issue. People ask me all the time about where I find all of these giveaways.
To be honest, there’s not an easy answer. Unless you subscribe to a competition website, you just need to look for them. The good news is, the more you look for them, the more you find them.
The more you search for competitions on social media, the more the algorithm will show you. The more companies that you follow, the more that they will show up on your feed. The more that you enter, the more that will be emailed to you.
I have lots of tabs open on my phone and laptop. These are ready for me to enter the competitions on those sites and to remind me. I follow lots of companies and pages on my social media so that I know when they are running a giveaway.
I am intentional about seeking these competitions out.
Does it get annoying sometimes? Yes.
Do I get annoyed with all the junk email? Yes.
I put up with it though because I love the thrill of winning competitions. There’s nothing like it.
Where To Find Competitions
I’ve written a short guide below about where to find competitions. You can apply this to wherever you live by searching for the relevant websites in your area. This particular guide is targeted to Adelaide as it’s where I live and how I find competitions.
This is by no means a complete list. I will come back and add to this where I can but it is only a starting point.
Here are some ideas that have worked for me:
TV
TV Shows often run competitions. These might be a code word or via their social media platforms. It’s worth keeping an eye out as the prizes are often big.
Radio Stations
Find your local radio station and see what competitions they run. Some are on-air competitions and others are online. They often give away generous prizes. My Sydney friend collected the daily code words and won a car!
If you are in South Australia, try:
Newspapers
Your local newspaper can be a great way of finding competitions. Subscribe to become a member or frequently look at their website or social media to keep an eye of any promotions.
Facebook & Instagram
Social Media is a great way to find competitions. Rather than mindlessly scrolling, you can be intentionally looking out for ways to win cash or prizes. It can be a lucrative side hustle.
Cash Rewards (get cash for signing up here)
ShopBack (get cash to sign up here)
Real Estate companies and agents (often giveaway prizes before Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, Easter, Show etc)
Shopping centres
Shopping centres often give away prizes. Follow them on social media to hear about their newest competitions. This is only a start as there are dozens of shopping centres.
Westfield (giveaways on their app too)
smaller centres in your city as they often give away prizes)
Look out for suggested and sponsored posts on social media. Although these are annoying, they can sometimes advertise incredible giveaways. I once won a $3000 Springfree trampoline and $1000 Pottery Barn voucher with a sponsored post on Facebook.
Magazines
Motoring Groups
If you are a member of your local motoring group, see if they run competitions. The RAA website and app in South Australia has regular competitions that you can enter.
Sports Clubs
Your state or local sports club likely runs competitions from time to time. Subscribe to their newsletter, follow them on social media or check their website to see if they are running any promotions.
Making A Purchase
Look out for promotional competitions when making a purchase. These can have amazing giveaways! It’s worth checking the closing date beforehand in case it has already finished (we’ve all been there).
I try to avoid these but if I was going to buy it anyway, I’ll enter the promotion. A friend of mine was buying her engagement ring and noticed an entry form on the counter. It was a trip to Paris. She entered and won!
If you enjoy eating fast food, these companies run large competitions such as Monopoly or Game Of Life. These encourage you to visit often and spend more money. Like any giveaway requiring a purchase, I’d recommend some self-control.
Competition Websites
Competition websites are another way of finding where to enter. The trouble is, many of these sites charge a membership fee for this privilege. There’s nothing wrong with paying this to save your time finding competitions.
Personally, I don’t use them. I don’t want to enter the same competitions as 20,000 other people. I also don’t want to help the owner of the site win by using their referral link. You can always find the competitions that you want to enter, google them and then enter through the official link.
Here are a few that you can look into:
Competition Groups On Facebook
As mentioned above, these groups have their place but are not always useful. I used to be in a few of these groups. I eventually realised that the same person ran these groups. They won most of the prizes because they would post referral links to a competition and then gain thousands of clicks. This one lady would decline my posts then post them herself to get these referrals. She eventually blocked me from the group (Thanks, Cleo).
I don’t have energy for that anymore but you might find them useful. I’d recommend avoid using the referral links and avoid groups run by individuals who control who can post or become narcissistic in their management of the group. There are dozens on Facebook so I’ll just mention a few.
