Vac-U-Seal Vacuum Sealer Set Sponsored Review
Looking for a way to keep food fresh for longer and save on your grocery bill? The Vac-U-Seal Vacuum Sealer by Thermomix might be the answer you’re looking for.
With the rising cost of living and groceries, times are tough right now. It is estimated that Aussies throw away a staggering 20% of their food. That’s one in five bags.
Admittedly, I haven’t always been the best at this. I have good intentions and try to use up what we have. Sometimes, I have bought too much without a plan to use them. Fruit and veg have gone limp in the fridge. The Joyful Frugalista and Captain Fi have brilliant skills in this area and offer clever suggestions for how to keep the cost of groceries down.
Since purchasing our Thermomix, I have done better in this area. We have used broccoli stems to make falafel, blitzed up veggies to bulk up meals and made food from scratch. We eat better and save money at the checkout. It’s been a great move for our family.
When Thermomix kindly asked me to try out their Vac-U-Seal, I happily agreed. I had heard great things and wanted to see for myself.

Features
Here are some of the features of the Vac-U-Seal:
- Helps to keep ingredients, prepared food and leftovers fresh
- Locks in nutrients
- Marinates food in minutes
- Ultra-resistant to thermal shock
- Pressure indicator and clever dial to record the storage date
- Removes air in around 10 seconds
- High-quality borosilicate glass
- Glass container and BPA-free lid
- Oven, fridge and freezer safe
My Thoughts
While the Vac-U-Seal is not a product I would have thought to purchase myself, this has come in super handy. We hosted family over Christmas and Boxing Day. We had a bunch of leftovers. I was determined to use these well and not forget about them in the back of the fridge.
In hindsight, it would have been handy to have a few more of these.
What I like:
- It is easy to use. For some reason, I thought it would be more complicated and didn’t use it straight away. Silly me. It’s incredibly easy.
- The containers look great. I particularly love the colours on the lid
- The dial is super clever to record the storage date
- How the white pressure indicator button pops down when it is ready. This means that all the air has been removed. The Vacuum Sealer can be removed
- How the Vacuum Sealer charges via USB. We have a charger on our bench so I found this simple.
- Can put the container in the dishwasher (just wash the lid and drip tray by hand)
- Can put the container in the oven (except for the lid)
- Keeps the fridge organised
- Our boys can help with sealing the containers
The Vac-U-Seal saves households money, prolonging the life and freshness of food. Berries (strawberries, blueberries and raspberries) and lettuce which have a short lifespan do remarkably well in these vacuum sealed containers.
I think they are perfect for meal prepping and storing ingredients. It helps to cut down on food waste and save you money.
Customers have access to useful tips, tricks, instructions and recipes in the comprehensive guide. The Thermomix website have so many ideas about how to use the Vac-U-Seal. I need to try more things such as marinating.

Vacuum Sealer Bag
The vacuum sealer bags are easy to use, just like the containers. I like that they are versatile and don’t take up as much space to store.
I find the Vac-U-Seal process pretty fun. After showing my boys how it works, they wanted a turn too. They fight over who gets to use it. (I might have to make up a roster..!)
Downsides
In my opinion, there aren’t many downsides to the Vac-U-Seal. I want to be as transparent as possible so here are some things that we didn’t love.
- Cost. These aren’t cheap. If cost is a barrier, I suggest waiting for a sale. Keep a regular eye out on the website. I guess when you weigh up the cost of food that can get spoiled in your refrigerator versus the cost of buying containers, would be worth calculating. Similar to paying $2500+ for a Thermomix – it’s not a small figure but it is an amazing machine. You do save money over time.
- The lid and tray need to be handwashed. This isn’t a big deal in itself but it is something to remember. Ensure that other members of your household know. To clean the lid properly, you can take the date rings and rubber seal off to clean the lid properly. This is a bit fiddly and I wouldn’t want to do it every time. There is a video to help.
- The release seal is a little fiddly. Larger fingers might struggle to lift up the black seal. It doesn’t have to be gripped up on all sides
- Note that you can’t use the new Vac-U-Seal with old containers. Be mindful of this if wanting to use with old ones or secondhand bargains. I’m all for utilising the secondhand economy
- The containers can be bulky to store. Ideally, these should be used all the time so you don’t have to store them. It might be worth buying a smaller set to start with and see how you go. Consider the size of your fridge, what size containers would fit best and where you could put them.

Safety Recall
You may or may not be aware of a recent safety recall of the 2.7L Vac-U-Seal containers. There have been a small amount of issues with the lid or container breaking when too much pressure has been applied.
I like that Thermomix Australia have moved fast on this. They have made every effort to contact affected customers. There is a drop-down banner on their website.

Overall Thoughts
Admittedly, I’m sold. I would like to purchase more containers and bags now. They are the best.
I’ve added them to my Mix Shop cart. I’ll think about it for a few days, to make sure it’s not an impulse purchase, but intend to buy after that.
